Wow! This is one of those stories that you probably won't want to start unless you are where you can finish it without putting it down. This is the second book in the Hidden Justice series, but can be read as a stand alone. I do recommend reading the first books in the series not only to get further background on the characters but also because it is a good one also. This author certainly knows how to combine intriguing characters, romance, legal suspense and action and write a story that had me hooked from the first pages. The title of the book certainly captures the them of the story. I certainly will be looking forward to the next book in the series. I was given a copy of the book by the author, but a positive review was not required. The opinions expressed are my own. Toe the reader who enjoys good legal suspense, this is a definitely a book you will want to read.Tags : Imperfect Justice (Hidden Justice) [Cara C. Imperfect Justice Hidden Justice Cara C Putman 9780718083489 Books Reviews
I do not believe in posting spoilers so I will just say that this book is sadly very timely. The story is riveting and difficult to put down like the other 2 books in this series. The evil is truly evil and the good is good! A great read! Lots of details.
This book was not as captivating as I expected. I always felt as though I was chasing a rabbit. I enjoyed the last half of the book a lot better than the first half because I felt as though I finally understood what was going on with the characters yet some scenes still do not exactly make sense. This book fell short of my expectations.
This was an interesting book covering the relevant, but complex, subjects of domestic violence, the law, and justice.
Emilie is a lawyer with a service that works to help get women and children out of abusive situations. She, and the many
supporting characters were well thought-out, the story giving insights into their lives and personalities. I appreciate
that the author didn't need crass language or detailed violence to tell her story.
This is my first book by this author. I really enjoy her work, and hope others will give her a try.
Absolutely LOVED this story! I have enjoyed reading Cara Putman's books for a while now, but I have to say this has been my favorite one so far. That is saying a lot because I truly loved her stories set in WWII. Cara knows law. She knows the challenges facing those in abusive relationships, and she knows how to write a lovely romance woven throughout the challenges facing her solid and very likeable characters. You will find this a compelling, fascinating, thrilling, and thoroughly enjoyable reading experience.
I love Cara Putman’s new legal thrillers. I have been a fan of her historical fiction for years and can now say the same for her legal thrillers. Cara tackles tough issues of the day in these books immigration in Beyond Justice and domestic abuse in Imperfect Justice. I could not put this book down, reading until 2 o’clock in the morning to finish it! I have since listened to the audio version and would gladly read or listen again! I am amazed at the many turns of events that play into the mysteries of this book. I cannot wait to read the next book that will be released later this year.
I have to love a writer who uses words like "piqued" and "parsed." I have to love a protagonist who uses colored pens to organize. Even the clothes Emilie wore to court were interesting--what woman doesn't have a power outfit or two--and no, it's not a black or gray suit. I liked the description of teamwork in Reid's job--there's a lesson there--and I liked how Emilie pondered Scripture to apply to her life. An absorbing story with increasing tension. One of my favorite writers. I even read this "out of order" because it arrived before part 1. I rarely do that. Donating this and Part 1 to local library.
Is Emilie named after the photographer who took the author's photo?
As a survivor of a violent, demeaning marriage, wish we'd had such resources in the 1970s.
Imperfect Justice is the first book by Cara Putman that my book club has read. And judging from the demands of members, it certainly won’t be the last. This page-turning romantic suspense got two thumbs-up from By The Book.
Emilie Wesley is a lawyer who fights to protect her clients from abuse and harassment. She knows a thing or two about that, having encountered an abusive boyfriend and a stalker. But something goes horribly wrong with one of her clients, and the woman she vowed to protect is dead and so is the daughter she is accused of killing. Emilie teams up with her client’s brother to find the truth and protect Kaylene’s surviving child.
Imperfect Justice combines suspense, romance and legal drama in one satisfying read. Members of By The Book found the characters real and relatable and the plot realistic. We had a great discussion of the aspects of protective orders and family violence. We also agreed that we never saw the ending coming — a big plus with our group. We read a lot of suspense, and if a book manages to surprise us, that is a big plus! Members also agreed that we liked the sincere faith of the characters, especially Reid. There were some minor plot points that we found a bit convenient and we thought Reid’s niece recovered a bit quickly, but all in all we recommend this novel.
Imperfect Justice is the second book in the series, but is easily read as a standalone. By the time we finished our discussion, many were clamoring to get a copy of book 1, Beyond Justice. And, I imagine that book 3, Delayed Justice will make more than one member’s TBR list.
Recommended.
Great for Book Clubs.
Audience adults.
